The sweet sound of success
One main feature of the CA78 digital piano is the tonal clarity and broad dynamic range that has been reproduced from the wonderful Shigeru Kawai SK-EX full concert grand piano. These pianos are generally understood as the ‘premier pianos of Japan’, and now this can be said for the digital piano market too. To reflect the splendour of sounds produced by these spectacular instruments, this model makes use of SK-EX Rendering. This enables the piano to amalgamate multi-channel, 88-key sampling with the latest timbre modelling technology. This means that the sound of the concert grand piano is manifested through various sound points, offering a wider variety of tonal characteristics to be echoed in digital form. Changes in dynamics are therefore more rich and expressive, giving added realism. This is heightened by modern developments in resonance algorithms, which have the added physicality of the interchange between strings, damper, and other aspects of the acoustic piano: an acoustic spot-the-difference.
Perfect harmony in digital
Just like an acoustic grand piano, the piano keys of the CA78 model are made from lengthy pieces of wood, and pivot central balance pin with a smooth, swinging movement. The physical motion of the wood connects with the grade-weighted metal hammers at the back, using triple-sensor technology to provide a faithful response system. The Grand Feel II’s action eighty-eight black and white keys hold draw upon the experience of Kawai’s 90 years’ worth of piano artistry. Modelled on the Kawai acoustic grand piano, this digital piano also offers a long pivot span, so players get a sense of uniformity when playing the keys to the rearmost of the keyboard. Pianissimo passages are accomplished with gracefulness as counterweights lay below each key for extra stability. The keyboard action also includes Kawai’s Ebony & Ivory Touch key surfaces, progressively absorbing moisture from quick fingertips, for added smoothness and elegance.
It takes two…
For this model, Kawai collaborated with Onkyo, one of Japan’s leading premium audio equipment manufacturers. Establishing the way onward with digital pianos, these pianos are the first to use these specialist mechanisms designed for high-end audio products, such as 1-bit DSD processing, dual DAC signal conversion, and Onkyo’s exclusive DIDRC circuitry. This means you get the incredible clarity of sound through the powerful, high-fidelity 6-speaker output system. The natural sound is enhanced through the use of Onkyo transducer appliances to channel sound energy onto a real wooden soundboard. A true Concert Artist model, it also incorporates Onkyo’s Discrete SpectraModule™ headphone amplifier, combined with Kawai’s existing Spatial Headphone Sound (SHS) technology. Showing that collaboration is key, you will find the very best sound whether alone or playing to a room full of people.
With just one touch
This digital piano can join forces with computers, other instruments, and various smart technologies. It does this not only through the standard USB and MIDI jacks, but through an integrated Bluetooth® MIDI and Audio technology, meaning you can connect without wires. Whether you are connecting to a phone, tablet, or laptop, there are a variety of compatible music apps you can use with the CA78 model whether in a piano lesson, practising your play, or composing your own tunes. You can even stream audio from songs and videos straight through the piano. In addition, it boasts a full-colour 5” touchscreen display, with just one touch, you have everything you could need in a digital piano. Leading the way with this modernisation, this model is amongst the first of its kind to use this touchscreen technology. What’s more, is that it is cleverly enclosed within the left cheekblock. Through this, the player is qualified to adjust sounds and settings simply by tapping or swiping the display with a finger. It is easily turned on and off whilst you play, including an automatic function setting, allowing you to lose yourself in the music, without any visual distractions.
Classic, yet contemporary
This amazing technology is all housed in a digital piano featuring a wooden cabinet with a flat fascia and raised upper board, providing a classic feel and appearance. The music rest is designed to hold the grandest musical scores, with six adjustable positions and smooth, rounded edges, and an imitation leather lining at the bottom. Replicating that of the acoustic grand piano, it can also be changed to suit your playing position. Alternatively, it can be set to a special ‘composer desk’ angle for added comfort when constructing scores or outlining musical ideas. Available in Premium Rosewood, Premium Satin Black, and Premium Satin White, it will fit in your home in a way that is classic, yet contemporary.
Comparison with CA78 model
There are many features that cross-over with the CA78 model. The CA98 model features a wider range of internal sounds, a couple more demo songs, and makes use of smaller dome tweets and more top speakers within its speaker system. It has a higher power consumption, and features more depth and height, weighing in at around 10kg more.
With amazing multi-channel grand piano sounds, an authentic wooden-key keyboard action, premium audio, amplification, and speaker technologies, brilliant Bluetooth connectivity, and a modern touchscreen interface, this new Kawai CA98 model delivers the Concert Grand experience to your home.
