What headphones can I use with a silent piano?

To enjoy silent mode, you’ll require any type of high-quality headphones that come with a standard 3.5mm jack. For the most complementary and immersive feel, many pianists prefer the feel of over-ear headphones.

Why choose a Yamaha SILENT Piano?

Yamaha is a world-renowned piano manufacturer. Releasing their first silent piano back in 1993, they have continued to evolve the concept, improving the performance of their sound-muting technology.

Yamaha SILENT Pianos are ideal for children who are learning or for anyone self-conscious about practising with an audience. They also make a great choice for people who prefer to shut out distractions, or those who have busy lives and only have time to play during more unsociable hours.

Silent pianos offer the freedom to play whenever the mood and opportunity take you – without having to compromise on the sound quality!

How does the SILENT Piano work?

Special optical sensors are fitted under each of the keys to capture the individual nuances of your playing with astonishing accuracy. It is this level of precision, typical of Yamaha, that makes it possible to play natural-sounding notes with utmost accuracy, which are then relayed perfectly through your headphones.

How is a silent piano different to a digital piano?

If your heart desires a traditional acoustic piano, but your head is drawn to the convenience and practicality of a digital piano, opting for a silent piano could be the ideal solution.

Whilst digital pianos rely purely on technology to produce sound, silent pianos enjoy the best of both worlds.

Still a fully strung acoustic piano, the Yamaha SILENT Piano has built-in functionality allowing you to switch to quiet mode, play silently, and connect headphones and other devices – so you can enjoy playing without worrying about causing a disturbance!

What is the quietest piano?

If you’re looking for a silent piano, the Yamaha SILENT piano SH3/SC3 is an industry-leading favourite due to its ability to perfectly blend silent, digital technology with an authentic, acoustic feel and sound.

With advanced switching technology that mutes hammers from hitting the piano strings on command, the Yamaha SILENT range is widely regarded as the quietest piano available. It doesn’t make any noise when connected to headphones, so you can practise whenever it suits you without feeling self-conscious about a note escaping the room – perfect if you’re playing at night, in a flat, or with family around.

What is the difference between an acoustic and a silent piano?

Acoustic pianos produce sound by the action of a hammer striking a string, while a silent piano is a type of piano which stops hammers prior to hitting the strings, preventing any audible sound from coming out of the instrument when in silent mode.

However, silent pianos still have the ability to be played in acoustic mode, where they can produce a natural sound when headphones aren’t required. This differs from digital pianos, which emulate the sound electronically.

Due to this added technology, silent pianos tend to cost more. The feel of acoustic and silent pianos usually remains the same, with playing actions remaining consistent.
