    FAQ's

In reality, any quality piano can be played and enjoyed at any level – whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned pro.

That said, if you’re new to piano playing, it can be worth sticking to the lower end of the market. As a beginner you’re unlikely to need, or fully appreciate, the musicality of a grand piano…but you’ll still be paying for it.

Worth too, considering the benefits of digital pianos – these are great for learners and can even hook up to teaching apps. Silent pianos are also a popular option, allowing you to plug in headphones and reserve the sound of endless practicing for your own ears.

We firmly believe there’s a perfect piano for everyone, and we’re here to help you find yours. Our knowledgeable team can help you to find the ideal instrument based on your playing needs, desires – and budget. Talk to us today.

Here at Richard Lawson Pianos, we stock only the most reputable and reliable piano brands – Yamaha, Kawai, Steinway, Bösendorfer, Petrof, the list goes on.

Each manufacturer brings their own individual qualities and nuances to their instruments, but you can be confident that every piano brand we stock is renowned for exquisite craftsmanship, attention to detail and beautiful sound.

For help finding the right piano for your playing style and needs, why not talk to the team or make an appointment to pop into our showroom and try out the different makes and models for yourself.

With the right care and maintenance, there’s no reason a quality piano can’t last a lifetime.

As a general rule, it’s expected that mass-produced pianos will perform at their best for around 30 years. With handcrafted models, this increases to at least 50 years. However, with professional tuning and regular servicing, this can extend to over 100 years – meaning there’s no reason you can’t pass your cherished instrument down through the generations.

Keen to get the best out of your piano and make sure it lasts? Then visit our tuning page or get in touch with the team to find out more about the professional tuning and technical expertise we have on offer.

The answer to this question is entirely personal, and we’d be inclined to sit on the fence – we love both!

Yes, a brand-new piano will be in pristine condition and offer all the latest features and musical advances – but it will have a price tag to match.

In comparison, an older piano – provided it has received proper care and maintenance – can more than equal the sound quality, but at a fraction of the price. Yes, with age the framework may start to look a little worn, but this will be reflected in the cost. A pre-owned piano can typically save you around 50% on the equivalent new version.

Whether you’re tempted by a shiny new model or charmed by the history of an old piano, both can offer a lifetime of musical enjoyment. And here at Richard Lawson Pianos, we’re so confident in the restoration quality of our pre-owned pianos for sale, that we offer the same great 30-day trial period and 5-year guarantee on all our instruments.

We understand that buying a piano is a substantial investment. You want to be confident you’re making the right choice – and that your chosen piano will live up to expectations.

With a wide range of pianos for sale from all the leading manufacturers, we offer pianos for all playing levels, styles and budgets. We won’t rest until we find the right piano for you!

From compact uprights and digital pianos – perfect for those just starting out – right through to more extravagant grand pianos designed to take centre stage, we really do have a piano for every player.

But it’s not just great choice we offer – we also deliver exceptional customer service too.

Our team of friendly, knowledgeable staff is always happy to help and answer questions – whether that’s in person at our impressive showroom, over the phone, or via email.

In fact, we’re so confident you’ll be delighted with a piano purchased from Richard Lawson Pianos, we even offer a 5-year guarantee and a no-quibble 30-day return policy. Shop now or talk to the team to find out more.

As with most significant investments, the value of a piano will depreciate over time.

As a guide, you can expect a new piano to depreciate by about 20% in the first year and by 2-5% annually.

You can protect your investment by ensuring your piano is properly cared for. This means regular tuning, cleaning, and protecting the casing.

Pre-owned instruments tend to retain more value than new, but when it comes to making sure you get the maximum benefit from your investment, our best advice is to make sure you’re paying a good price.

At Richard Lawson Pianos, we have both new and pre-owned pianos for sale and guarantee fair, competitive pricing. Talk to the team to find out more or for help sourcing a piano within your budget.

    No!

At Richard Lawson Pianos, we have an impressive collection of both new and pre-owned pianos for sale. But this isn’t your only choice – we offer piano hire too.

We understand that buying a piano is a significant investment, and there are numerous reasons why you might not feel ready to commit – such as concerns piano playing may turn out not to be your thing, or being unsure about the type of piano you want or where it will fit in your home.

We’re here to help you get it right the first time. By offering a fantastic piano hire service, you can try before you buy, giving you greater confidence that you’re making the right choice.

Don’t forget – if you do decide to buy from us, we offer a 30-day returns policy too

Had a great experience buying from Richard Lawson pianos. I phoned on a weekend, and was able to book in to try out some pianos late that same afternoon.
Colin was very helpful, showing me the various options that met my criteria, and
… More the closest equivalents for those that weren't yet in stock. He patiently let me go back and forth between pianos myself, answering my many questions, politely helping me to overcome some of my preconceptions about certain brands, as well as demonstrating what each piano sounds like in the hands of a skilled pianist.
Purchasing was easy, with RLP taking a deposit to reserve the piano (which could be transferred or refunding pending checks that my piano would fit), and then they kept me up to date up until delivery. I was able to add items to my order last minute before delivery too.
All in all an excellent purchasing experience, and I'm delighted with the piano I received.

Richard provided an excellent personal service in helping me to choose a piano for my daughter. Unfortunately, I was too focused on quality of tone than suitability for the location of the piano in our house, and it quickly became apparent … More that the piano was too powerful for the space. This was no problem for Richard, who agreed to swap it for a size down and the exchange was made within 24 hours. Richard wasn't at all bothered that the new piano was a cheaper model - he was a gentleman to deal with throughout.
