The Kawai brand is known the world over for being one of the most well-respected piano makers, due to its excellent build quality. The Kawai GL10 is no exception – a Baby Grand Piano with the same responsive touch and playability as a full-sized grand piano. The compact frame, measuring at just 153cm in length, means that it will fit right in to your home and impress anyone who should bear witness to its sight and sound.
What’s New about the GL10 Piano?
You may be wondering what the difference is between the GL10 and the previous GM10 model. One main difference between the two is the action as the GM10 did not feature the millennium three action. This widely acclaimed carbon fibre action can now be seen in in the newer GL10 model, resulting in more fluidity and an increased repetition speed for more advanced players to enjoy. There is an improvement in the accuracy, especially at the lower dynamic ranges. This series of Kawai pianos also features extended keys. In regard to this, the playable surface is not extended, but rather the level behind it, making a more accurate and powerful sound.
The Benefits of the Close System
Another great feature of the Kawai GL10 Baby Grand Piano is that it features a soft-fall close system. Not only does this offer a more pleasant end to your play, but it is also particularly handy for those players who have young children around. The soft-fall close system means that any little hands caught between the lid and the keys won’t be hurt in the process.
The Technicalities of Sound
The GL10 makes use of a tapered soundboard, so it becomes narrower as it gets closer to the edge of the piano’s rim. This essentially means that its great sound is persevered for longer as you won’t hear any of the distortion and standing waves that a flattened, non-tapered soundboard would receive. Instead, as the energy or tension of the soundboard increases, there is a larger usable area of the soundboard.
